There are many choices when it comes to design and materials selection, it may be difficult to navigate through it all. Having a sign contractor who understands your options is essential. Whether you are in need of a little guidance or a complete turnkey solution, Sign of Success is your sign authority.
Here are some questions to ask yourself regarding your ADA signs: Do you need a signage plan for a new construction or an audit of an existing facility or TI? Are you concerned with compliance or with aesthetics? Is the ability to update your ADA signs imperative? Are you integrating your ADA signs with building identification, directories, site signage, illuminated signage, an electronic marquee, a dedication plaque or donor recognition program? Can you get all the sign types you need from a single source? Signs of Success can help you answer these questions.
Do You Need ADA Compliant Braille Signs?
Compliance with ADA standards will ensure your signs will be read accurately and with ease. We offer signs that meet ADA standards for federal, state and local building codes. These codes are constantly changing; we can help you determine what you need to stay in compliance.
Braille signs are limited by regulations, for example: the text needs to be within a certain size, between 5/8” to 2” tall; choice of font limited; finish of the sign cannot be glossy; braille cannot be within 1/2” of the text. These rules are there to be sure the signs are easy for the visually impaired to read. This doesn’t mean every font needs to be Helvetica or that your color pallet should be constrained to blue and white. There are many options to make your Braille signs durable, attractive and modular.
Outdoor ADA Signage Material
There are many material options to consider. Integrated color acrylics like Rowmark’s ADA Alternative line is attractive, durable and very cost effective. It is one of our most popular choices for educational facilities. Rowmark ADA Alternative comes in 40 color choices. If you need a custom color but still like the look and cost of acrylic signage consider back-painted, non-glare cast acrylic. It is available in both 1/8” and 1/4” thickness with either frosted or painted edges. You can also choose from etched or machined metals like aluminum, bronze, zinc and magnesium. If you prefer the older style sandblasted ADA sign process your material choices are melamine and fiberglass. The latest technology in ADA sign fabrication is thermoforming. Heat and pressure are applied to plastic to form a mold. Thermoforming can press many types of material into an ADA sign including acrylic, Kydex and even post-consumer waste like old computers.
Interior ADA Signs Material
Our outdoor-rated products can also be used for your interior applications. There are some unique interior only options however. Photopolymer signs are an ideal solution for projects that require a wide range of colors and details. While these signs don’t hold up well outdoors they are excellent indoors. Other, more decorative, options for interior signs include wood and metal laminants.
ADA Sign Finishing Options
You could just stick your sign to the wall and call it good, but with the abundance of finishing options at your disposal you can make your ADA signs coordinate with architectural elements such walls, cabinetry and counters to really make them pop!
UV Printing
The advent of inks that turn into plastic when exposed to UV light have allowed us to print on almost any surface these days. The process, commonly called UV printing, can add faux texture or personalization with a photographic image or logo.
Custom Shapes & Backplates
Is a simple border on your sign not enough? Chose a custom shape like a diamond, circle, wave, camber or arch. Mounting on a contrasting backplate or a truly unique material like 3Form’s Varia Ecoresin really sets your sign apart.
Mounting & Hardware
Sometimes you just want your sign to stay on the wall, using 3M VHB tape along with a high quality silicone is the way to go. When vandal proof hardware is called for, Stainless Steel tamperproof screws show you mean business. If your facility repurposes and repaints spaces regularly then modularity is a top priority. A sign frame eliminates the hassle of patch and painting with every sign change. Even if you aren’t planning on changing your signage, a frame gives an undeniable finished appearance, especially since you can chose from 9 anodized colors and a number of profile designs to satisfy your taste. Additionally, if you’re looking for a modern look, polished acrylic coupled with brushed metal offers the high tech chic you’re after. Our offerings from Gyford Standoff Systems will meet your needs.
User Updated Systems
Too often personalization means a hand-lettered piece of construction paper scotch-taped to the wall. With our paper insert holders and changeable sign frames, construction paper signs will be a thing of the past. You can avoid the appearance of unsightly scotch-taped signs in your new facility by planning for the needs of it’s users in a manner that is easily updated. Paper holders can be made to any size. For instance, a small name strip can be added to the bottom of your office signs, large paper holders to display your hours of operation, or announcements at the entry of reception and meeting rooms.
Privacy is of great importance, especially in the healthcare industry. That’s why we offer a simple slider that can be added to your sign to let everyone know if the room is available for use. This is handy for airplane restrooms, conference rooms, counseling rooms, and exam rooms.
There are many considerations to be made when planning an ADA sign program. Give us a call today and ask how we can help with your project. We’ll guide you from start to finish, designing a solution that you and your facility users can rely on for years to come.
